John Carson 2 Mile Race

John Carson July 4th
2-Mile Road Race
Thursday, July 4th, 2013 9:30 AM

This is a local Chelmsford race that starts behind Chelmsford's Walmart and ends at the intersection of MA-110/Littleton Road. This is a two mile race. The two miles are lined up with heavy crowds that gather early to see the road race and then followed by the July 4th parade.

July 4th, 2013 was a very hot day (above 90 degrees and very humid). I was running my first road race with my older son and wife. He is 8 yrs old and had previously run 1 unofficial mile before this race to practice for this race. I was planning to match my son's pace during the race. My wife started early and had a good pace throughout the race. She finished early.

My son did a good job at the race. Even though, it was hot and humid, he acted smart throughout the race and grabbed or got under water, where possible. The crowd had sprinklers on for the racers.

My son stayed at a 13 minute/mile pace throughout the race and finished the race strong.
